Chiropractors are one of the primary care professions in Ontario. It is a regulated health profession accepted by statue in all Canadian provinces. It is widely recognized as one of the safest, evidence-informed, hands-on, drug-free, non-invasive therapies available for the treatment of pain in the musculoskeletal system. A Doctor of Chiropractic spends four years at an accredited chiropractic college in addition to at least three years of an undergraduate university program and receive more than 4,200 hours of specialized clinical training. Their studies include anatomy, pathology, biomechanics, radiology, chiropractic principles, diagnosis and adjustment techniques.

During the visit, the chiropractor will take detailed history and perform a comprehensive physical examination before establishing a diagnosis. Then, a treatment plan is created based on the individual. Chiropractors mainly uses their hands to assess, treat and provide preventative care. The most common therapy a chiropractor uses is spinal manipulative therapy (SMT). Specific training in SMT allows chiropractors to provide highly-skilled and precise adjustments to the vertebrae of the spine, correcting joint motion to restore proper movement and improve function.

A Chiropractor can also recommend therapeutic exercise and other non-invasive therapies, and provide nutritional, dietary and lifestyle counselling. Chiropractic care can help improve movement, function, flexibility, posture and pain. It can also help prevent injuries and enhance performance. Chiropractors work complementarily with other healthcare professionals to build a strong network of resources that will benefit the individual.
